What We Typically Find by Neighborhood
Alexandria's neighborhoods were built in different eras, and the wiring follows the era. In Old Town, we find knob-and-tube in pre-1940 rowhouses, often with generations of spliced-in additions. Del Ray's 1920s–40s bungalows usually have cloth-insulated wire and original 60-amp fuse boxes. Rosemont and Beverley Hills mix knob-and-tube remnants with mid-century updates. North Ridge and parts of the West End built in the 60s–70s are where aluminum branch wiring turns up. Parkfairfax and Fairlington have aging shared electrical systems with strict historic-district rules about how work gets done. Seminary Hill's larger older homes often need panel upgrades just to support modern HVAC. Knowing the neighborhood tells us what to look for before we even open the panel.
