Bungalows With Old Bones
Del Ray grew up between the early 1900s and the 1940s. The bungalows and colonials along Mount Vernon Avenue and the side streets are full of character — and often full of original wiring. Cloth-insulated wire was standard then. After 80 or 100 years, that cloth breaks down.
We find the same problems again and again in Del Ray: two-prong outlets in every room, one outlet per bedroom, and panels that are maxed out. Then someone adds central air or a home office, and the old system cannot keep up.
What We Usually Fix
A full rewire replaces the old cloth wire with modern grounded cable. We add the outlets today's life actually needs — grounded three-prong outlets, GFCI protection in kitchens and baths, and dedicated circuits for big appliances. Most Del Ray homes also need a panel upgrade to 200 amps.
Crawl spaces and unfinished basements are common here, which actually makes the work cleaner. We can run a lot of the new wiring from below with very little wall damage.
Porches, Additions, and Outbuildings
Del Ray homes often have features that need electrical attention too: enclosed porches converted to living space, rear additions from the 70s or 80s, and detached garages. Porch conversions are a classic trouble spot — they were often wired as an afterthought, with extension-cord-grade work buried in the walls.
When we rewire, we include these spaces properly: grounded outlets, correct circuit sizing, and weatherproofing where the porch meets the outdoors. If your garage needs power for tools or a future EV charger, we run that while we are at it.
