Open walls are a gift
If you're renovating — kitchen, bath, addition, or a full gut — the walls are already open. That makes it the cheapest, cleanest time to rewire you'll ever get. Running wire through open studs takes a fraction of the time (and cost) of fishing it through finished walls. If your Alexandria home has old wiring and you're remodeling anyway, do the electrical now.
What to add while you're in there
Think beyond replacing what's there. Dedicated 20-amp circuits for the kitchen's small appliances. Under-cabinet lighting circuits. Bathroom GFCI and a dedicated circuit. Extra outlets where furniture actually goes — not where the 1940s builder guessed. USB outlets in bedrooms. Hardwired smoke detectors. A renovation is a once-in-decades chance to get the electrical right. Don't waste it.
Coordinating with your contractor
Timing matters. We rough in wiring after framing and plumbing but before insulation and drywall. We work from your contractor's schedule and hit our windows — electricians who hold up drywall are nobody's friend. If you don't have a GC yet, we can recommend the sequence to follow.
Permits and inspections
Renovation electrical needs permits and inspections like any electrical work. We pull them and meet the inspector. In Alexandria, inspectors check rough-in before drywall goes up — miss that window and drywall comes back off. We don't miss windows.
The pre-drywall checklist
Before insulation and drywall go up, five things must happen: the rough-in inspection passes, every circuit is labeled at the panel, we photograph all the walls (so you know exactly where wires run — invaluable years later), future-proofing goes in (empty conduit to the attic and garage for whatever comes next, extra circuits where you might want them), and you walk the job with us to confirm outlet and switch locations. Moving an outlet after drywall costs ten times what it costs now. That walkthrough is your last cheap chance to get it right. We insist on it.
