What an EV charger needs
A Level 2 home charger — the kind that fills your car overnight instead of over days — needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit, usually 40 to 60 amps. That's as much as an electric dryer, on its own circuit, running for hours. Your panel, your wiring, and your service size all have to support it. Most Alexandria panels need a look before we say yes.
The panel question comes first
This is the step everyone skips. A 100-amp panel with no spare spaces can't safely add a 50-amp charger. We do a real load calculation — your home's actual electrical demand on paper — before quoting. Sometimes the answer is a simple breaker addition. Sometimes it's a panel upgrade first. We'd rather tell you the truth than install something your panel can't feed.
The wire run
The charger goes where the car parks — garage, driveway, or carport. We run the circuit from your panel to that spot, through the basement, crawl space, or along the exterior in conduit. Outdoor-rated chargers handle Alexandria weather fine. We mount the charger, wire it, and test a full charging session before we leave.
Permits and utility
EV circuits need electrical permits and inspection, like any major circuit addition. Some setups also benefit from a utility rate check — overnight charging rates can cut your "fuel" cost. We handle the permit; you enjoy the cheap miles.
